 Founded in 1895, Aston is an established, “old” University known for world class Teaching Quality and Research and a Graduate Employment record that is consistently amongst the best in the UK – ranked 9th out of all 120 Universities in the UK for graduate employment in 2008-2009 by the Sunday Times. Aston is also consistenly ranked in the UK’s top 20 or 30 in The Times and Complete University Guide rankings, above many Russell Group Universities.

All of the University’s academic, social and accommodation facilities are based on our attractive, self contained green Campus, right in the centre of Birmingham, one of Europe’s liveliest and welcoming cities. Around 70% of our students take Sandwich or Year Abroad programmes providing excellent experience integrated into their degrees. Applying to Aston University

• Applications for all of our Undergraduate programmes should be made online through UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service).
• UCAS covers all full-time courses (including those with placement years) leading to a first degree or diploma at university or college in the UK.
• Course details for all institutions in UCAS, including information on entry requirements and UCAS codes, are available on the UCAS website.
• If your school, college or careers centre is registered with UCAS, you can apply through them, but if not you can apply directly on the UCAS website.

A taught programme (Masters) is ideal if you are looking for a competitive advantage in the job market or to develop extra knowledge and skills that will help you in your career. It can also be useful if you wish to have a change in career direction. Masters programmes typically last one year full-time or two years part-time.

An MRes (Master of Research) degree is a Masters level award. The special significance of an MRes degree is that it reflects a thorough grounding in research methods.

You normally need a good honours degree for entry onto an Aston taught programme. You may be eligible with equivalent professional qualifications

We welcome applications from well-qualified students offering a wide range of other qualifications including the International Baccalaureate (IB), European Baccalaureate (EB), and many other international qualifications. Entry requirements are listed in this prospectus in terms of A Level qualifications; the University
accepts equivalent international qualifications and international access/foundation programmes. As an example, International Baccalaureate (IB) candidates should equate an A level offer of BBB to mean 33-34 points at IB and an A level offer of BCC to be 31-32 points.

Offer levels vary according to degree programme and you should contact the relevant Admissions Tutor if you need further information – contact details are listed on each course page. If you have international qualifications and are not sure if they are acceptable for entry, please contact the International Office for advice

Foundation programmes

Aston runs a range of foundation years for international students. These are designed to prepare you for a university education in the UK. The programmes prepare students who do not have the required A Level or equivalent qualifications, for entry to Aston’s undergraduate degree programmes.

How and when to apply

All undergraduate applicants must apply through UCAS. We consider international applications throughout the year, but recommend that you apply as early as possible in the UCAS cycle.

For the International Foundation Programme, you apply directly to us through our website.

Second year entry

We are also happy to consider suitably qualified UCAS applicants for advanced standing into the second year of selected programmes. Direct entry to the final year of any of our degrees is not permitted, reflecting the high quality and professional integrity of our programmes.

English language requirements

To ensure that you will be successful in your studies at Aston, we look for strong evidence that you have a good level of written and spoken English before you are accepted onto any of Aston’s programmes. You can find more details on our International Office pages.

Aston is an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test centre, so you can register for IELTS classes and tests.

We run a series of English language summer courses before the start of each academic year. These are designed to help you to gain the language skills needed for your chosen subject area and develop your communication skills.
